Scouting provides fun, challenge and adventure to over 500,000 members, and all of their leaders in the UK.
We host the 3 younger sections of Scouting from age 5.5 up to the age of 14, once our young people reach aged 14 they can move onto Explorer Scouts in either Greenock or Kilmacolm.
The 47th Greenock and District Scouts was founded in 1911, known at the time as the 4th Port Glasgow and over the years has moved around Port Glasgow. In July 2021, the 47th and the 97th Greenock and District Scouts merged and became 1 group providing scouting to the entire town of Port Glasgow, Our Monday sections now meet in Newark Primary School and our Wednesday night sections meet in St John’s Primary School. Currently we have over 70 young people Scouting with us at the 47th / 97th and this number is growing year on year.
Scouts are do-ers and give-it-a-go-ers. Yes, we go camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, cycling and canoeing. But we also get to hang out with our friends every week having fun, playing games, working in a team and taking on new challenges.
Scouting provides fun, challenge and adventure to over 500,000 members, and all of their leaders in the UK. Every Scout Group in the UK is dependent on its volunteers, so any help that you can give us in any form would be brilliant – even if it’s just an hour a month!
